We have been talking about getting an elf on the shelf ever since we had our first kid.  I am all for it, but the wife is against it.  She pointed out some key facts, if I forget to move it, the children will be sad, and she has made it clear this would be my thing…I think we will try it next year, maybe just the 12 days of XMAS :).
